Hello Teacher Friends! My name is Andrea Lowe. I am a teacher and life coach. I have taught different grade levels all over the world for almost 20 years now. I want to talk about ways to improve your life as a school teacher so that you will shine like the educational rock star you are!
We have all heard that It is important to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. This is especially true for school teachers because we are exposed to many personalities, many stories, and many decisions daily. We must learn how to give more support to ourselves to increase our confidence and happiness. As we make this shift into our true self, we can build stronger relationships with children, parents and our coworkers.
I believe this is an ongoing process and does take some work, but a teacher is used to doing multiple tasks with determination and grit anyway! In order to teach perseverance, you must be persevering. In the end, this all leads to increased self confidence which I believe is 90% of personal success. If you’re successful, you are happy. When you are a confident and happy teacher, your students will become more confident and happy.
How to Overcome Your Fears or Blocks
As you know, with teaching comes many rewards and also poses many challenges. The trick is to focus on the joyous rewards of watching your students learn, grow, and become successful in order to get through those challenging situations. It is also good to have some strategies for challenging situations, so I want to talk to you about one of the most difficult challenges I have come into contact with as a teacher everywhere I have taught, which is dealing with difficult adults at work.
I used to wonder why some teachers, administrators, school nurses, cafeteria workers, etc.. would stay in a job at the same school day in and day out that seemed so unsatisfying to them until I moved three times in three years internationally to be a fifth grade teacher, first grade teacher and now a learning support teacher for grades K-12. I never realized each time you start over, not only do you have to create new pacing guides and lesson plans, you also have to build new relationships with colleagues, administration, parents, and students in the school community. In a way, you almost have to prove your worth especially with colleagues and administration right away. This can be extremely challenging, especially if you were used to being well respected, trusted and highly valued at your previous school.
Even though this can be emotionally draining, this is an opportunity to transform negative emotions into sources of strength and wisdom. Working through this allows us to move toward healing and growth in our own personal journey towards self fulfillment by strengthening our connection with our higher self.
Here are some steps to change your fear into faith by looking at the facts!
You cannot change anyone. Don’t be surprised if this is “normal” behavior for this person. Remain calm and professional, count to 10, and do not react. Forgive yourself if you do, reflect on how you can respond if there is a next time. Ask yourself, is this a reflection of you? How did I respond? How do people see me?
Focus on your core values and the facts. Have data driven conversations based on the student’s needs. Their intentions will shift toward positive values.
Focus on your job (students) having minimal contact with that person. Say hello and keep it moving! Always make it about the student’s rights and advocate for this.
Re-frame negative thoughts into gratitude and lessons learned. “I am learning how to be humble and compassionate” “I am learning how to speak with coworkers”
Let it Go! Release all limiting beliefs. Research and use techniques like the Violet Flame. See my notes below. ( Research YouTube videos to release and forgive)
Forgive yourself for any negative emotions and forgive the person by being thankful for the lessons or virtues learned. Also when you say “I forgive you” to someone, this means that you are no longer accepting any negative energy from them.
Remember this is a process so it might occur again but repeat the steps. Celebrate the small improvements you made each time and build from that.

My personal notes from this journey
Closing
Remember, it is important to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your students. I will be sharing more ways for teachers to improve their lives that I have researched and applied to my life because I believe all teachers need more support.
